Background

Sister Kevin was born Brigid Áine Fearghal, though no one has used that name in twenty years. She entered the Sisters of Nursia at nineteen. Not because she was gentle. Because she was clear. She grew up in County Clare, the fourth of seven, in a family that went to Mass the way other families went to work: no question, no performance, everyone carries their weight. She carried hers. She has always carried more than hers.

The Sisters of Nursia are not a contemplative order. They were founded in the fourteenth century, after a plague outbreak in a Lombardy village that the Church's official history calls unusually severe. The Order's own archive tells a different story about what that plague actually was. The mandate has not changed in seven centuries: go where the Church cannot send its priests, do what it cannot officially authorize, and finish the work.

Sister Kevin was cleared for field placement at twenty-three. Her supervisor's evaluation called her, in writing, alarming in the most reassuring way possible. Seventeen years of active field service followed. She has never counted the interventions. Counting was never the point. She does what she is sent to do, and expects to do it again.

She is large, strong, composed, and devout in a way that has nothing to do with performance. She is exactly where she believes she is meant to be, doing exactly what she believes she is meant to do. Other operatives spend years chasing that kind of stability. She walked into a room with it already.

Skills

Charter Trait — Individual Authority (Sisters of Nursia): Sister Kevin carries genuine Catholic spiritual authority (devotionally serious, operationally effective, theologically real) with no traceable institutional connection to the Church's official hierarchy. Her holy acts are performed at full holy authority. The absence of ordination does not diminish them. The absence of official sanction does not diminish them.

When operating in a context where a Catholic priest's presence would trigger institutional recognition (diocesan scrutiny, canonical inquiry, media attention, a bishop's office asking questions) Sister Kevin triggers none of it. She may cooperate with any faction without Order of Mercy sanction. She may act in spaces the Church officially cannot enter without creating a record the Church must manage.

When the Order of Mercy has called her and the work is done, she is gone. What remains is the Order's problem, the Order's authority, and the Order's press. This is not resentment. This is the arrangement, and she entered it with open eyes.

Talents

Blessed Implements (Consecration Tree, Tier 1, Chapter Six): Sister Kevin can prepare a weapon, vial, tool, or object to count as Holy for one scene, allowing it to affect supernatural targets that require holy items. In her hands this is usually the reliquary knife or the heavy crucifix. The Charter Trait means she does this at full holy authority despite holding no ordination.

Press the Advantage (Combat Proficiency Tree, Tier 1, Chapter Six): When she has a confirmed positional, numerical, or informational advantage over a target, she adds 1 Boon die to her Melee or Ranged attack check.

The Horror Does Not Win Tonight (Iron Will Tree, Tier 3, Chapter Six): Sister Kevin reduces Strain gained from supernatural fear, oppressive dread, and infernal spiritual pressure by 1 per incident, to a minimum of 0. Dread walks in. She stays standing. That is the whole of it.

Stand With Them (Deliverance Tree, Tier 1, Chapter Six): When Sister Kevin helps another character resist demonic influence, she adds 1 Boon die to their Composure or Deliverance resistance check. She plants herself and does not yield; the person she is standing with holds because she is holding.

Equipment

• Field-modified habit — black and charcoal, severely cut, altered for freedom of movement; the Order's insignia is present but understated; she does not wear the full formal habit in field conditions
• Reinforced boots — heavy, steel-capped.
• Heavy crucifix — solid silver over iron core, worn at the neck; functions as a melee weapon (+2 Melee, consecrated, iron quality) in addition to its devotional function; she prefers the reliquary knife in active situations but the crucifix has seen more use than most people would expect
• Reliquary knife — consecrated blade carrying a sealed fragment of a fourth-century martyr; formally blessed by the Sisters' current Mother Superior; carries the Blessed and Iron qualities (Chapter Seven), so it adds a Boon die against demonic entities and ignores Resistance and Legendary on iron-vulnerable entities; she treats it with reverence and uses it without hesitation
• Prayer cord — worn at the wrist; Saint Brigid intercession cord, knotted at seven stations; she prays it before field deployments
• Rosary — at her belt; heavy gauge, iron beads; she has swung it in a pinch and will not pretend otherwise
