Background

Mina Park spent eight years in federal law enforcement, financial crime first and then organized violence, closing cases that other agents had let go cold. Luck was never the mechanism. She stayed on a thread longer than anyone else was willing to, worked back through gaps that less patient agents wrote off as dead ends, and returned to the physical record whenever the witness accounts stopped adding up.

The case that changed her track was a wrongful death she was not officially assigned to. A shipping executive in Portland, found in a locked office, injuries the medical examiner privately called inconsistent with anything in the file. Park pulled the coroner's notes on her own time and found the gap: an hour missing from the building's security footage, a blood pattern physics had no clean answer for, a toxicology screen returning four substances no laboratory in the country had catalogued. She wrote it up and filed it through channels. The report went nowhere. Ten days later her desk phone rang, and a voice she did not recognize asked if she had time for a conversation about the Lyncean Office.

Four years in, she has closed eleven anomalous cases, built two evidence chains that produced federal indictments against human cult members, and written the notation protocol for Hollow-adjacent evidence that the Office now runs as standard. She still carries the same evidence bags she bought at her first posting. Tools that work do not get replaced on schedule.

She will not discuss with most colleagues how Portland actually ended: what she found at the center of it, or what she did about it afterward. The official file says the subject was apprehended. The unofficial one is that she carries a single point of Corruption and checks her mirrors twice.

Skills

Federal Jurisdiction and Evidence Chain are Hard-Gated Authority Skills, available to her through Lyncean Office membership (Chapter Four, Chapter Five).

Faction Passive — Impossible Evidence (Lyncean Office): Once per scene, after a successful investigative check on a supernatural case (Forensics on a body or scene, Inquiry with a witness, Perception on a physical location, Research on a case file), Park may ask the GM: "What does the mundane explanation fail to explain?" The GM answers honestly. This is not a free answer to everything. It is the directed crack applied precisely where the official record is weakest. Park's federal access and institutional authority (crime-scene control, medical examiner cooperation, evidence requisition) comes through Federal Jurisdiction and Evidence Chain, her hard-gated authority skills, not through this passive.

Talents

Pattern Case (Investigation Tree, Tier 4, Chapter Six): When Park compares the current case to a prior incident in her records or memory, she treats one Research or Forensics check as having produced one additional piece of relevant information. She closed cold cases by staying on the thread longer than anyone else was willing to.

Chain of Custody (Signature Ability): Park's case documentation is airtight by professional reflex. This goes beyond the Evidence Chain authority skill itself: when she personally establishes a formal chain on a case, physically tagging and logging items, any subsequent Inquiry or Research checks made using that evidence by any character in her group add one Boon die . If the chain is broken or compromised, she knows immediately.

Chain Command (Field Authority Tree, Tier 4, Chapter Six): Once per session, Park may accelerate one bureaucratic, legal, or institutional process from days to hours by invoking federal authority: a sealed autopsy, a restricted record, a classified incident file. The fiction requires a plausible paper trail; the mechanical result is access.

Cold Read (Chapter Six): When Park makes an Inquiry check to read a subject's truthfulness, stress level, or hidden motive in a formal interview setting, she may add one Boon die to the pool. She has conducted enough interviews to know what people look like when they are lying about something specific versus lying about everything.
